Dr Tang Zhi Hao is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot, ankle, and general orthopaedic surgery. His clinical interests include hallux valgus correction, ankle ligament repair, and managing various foot deformities, sports injuries, and fractures.
Dr Tang Zhi Hao graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with distinction in Biochemistry from the National University of Singapore in 2006. In 2018, he attained his Fellowship with the College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was accredited by the Specialist Accreditation Board (SAB). Before moving into private practice, Dr Tang served as a consultant and Deputy Head of the Department at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH).
Dr Tang completed a clinical fellowship in Foot and Ankle surgery at Severance Hospital, Yonsei University Health System in Seoul, one of South Korea’s largest hospitals. During his fellowship, he trained under Professor Jin Woo Lee, then President of the International Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies (IFFAS).
His clinical expertise includes hallux valgus (bunion) correction, ankle ligament repair for sprains, and ankle arthroscopy. He also addresses foot deformities such as pes planus (flatfoot) and pes cavus, treats heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendon disorders, and manages conditions like ankle arthritis, osteochondral lesions, and foot and ankle fractures. While at KTPH, Dr Tang was part of the multi-disciplinary Diabetic Foot Unit (DFU), treating patients with diabetic foot ulcers and infections. Additionally, he manages a broad range of general orthopaedic conditions, including fractures, arthritis, sports injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, and minor soft tissue masses.
Dr Tang has published extensively in peer-reviewed, high-impact international journals such as Foot and Ankle International. He was actively involved in teaching medical students at the National University of Singapore and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. As part of the core faculty for the National Healthcare Group (NHG) residency program, he organized hands-on cadaveric workshops to train future orthopaedic surgeons.
In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, Dr Tang was vice-chairman of the Medical Device Committee and a member of the Operating Theatre Committee at KTPH. He also contributed to the NHG Wounds iCare Collaborative (WiCC) Research and Clinical Workgroup and serves as Singapore’s representative on the Asian Federation of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (AFFAS) newsletter committee.
Outside of work, Dr Tang enjoys spending time with his family, reading on various topics, playing basketball, and exploring good food.
